31: 13 Days Bird Wilderness Safari
Day
1
Departure from Nairobi at 9.00 am for Mount Kenya NP arriving for lunch.
Afternoon birding along the nearby forested trails or waiting for glimpses
of the shy montane wildlife as it comes down to the nearby waterhole/saltlick.
We hope to see Olive & Bronze-naped Pigeons, Silvery-cheeked Hornbills,
Ruppell's Robin Chat, White-starred Forest Robin, Mountain Greenbul,
Stuhlman's Starling and maybe Verreaux Eagle Owl. Overnight at MOUNTAIN
LODGE.
Day
2
An early breakfast is followed by a morning drive up Mt Kenya's lower
slopes, through the numerous vegetation zones and onto the 10,000 ft
Afro-alpine moorland. We return in the afternoon for a birdwalk along
the riverine forests. Black Duck, Hartlaub's Turaco, Crowned Hornbill,
Paradise and up to eight species of sunbird Overnight at NARO MORU RIVER
LODGE.
Day
3-4
Early morning departure over The Great Rift Valley wall and onto the
Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Here we enjoy
outstanding game drives & bird walks all making this a truly memorable
locality. Famous for flamingos, pelicans and waterbirds but equally
rich in Narina's Trogon, Arrow-marked Babbler and red-headed Weaver,
Hilderbrandt's Francolin, Montane and Dusky Nightjars and many more.
Two overnights at LION HILL LODGE.

5-6
After a short drive north, past the hot springs of L.Bogoria and onto
L.Baringo. Afternoon boat excursion to view Hippo, Crocodiles and water
birds at close range. Dark Chanting Goshawk, Silverbird, Cliffchats,
Jackson's & Yellow-billed Hornbills, Brown-tailed Rock Chat, Bristle-crowned
Starlings, Verreaux Eagle & Spotted Eagle Owl. Two overnights LAKE
BARINGO ISLAND CAMP
Day
7-8
Full day drive over the Tugen Hills, through the Kerio Valley
and Serikwa plateau and finally onto Kakamega Forest. Kakamega
is the eastern most remnant of the great west African rain forests
that once stretched the width of Africa, its flora, fauna & avifauna
is fascinating. Specalities include Great Blue Turaco, Emerald
Cuckoo, Blue-headed Bee-Eater, Black & White Casqued Hornbill, Black-billed
and Vieillot's Black Weavers. Two overnights RONDO RETREAT.
Day
9-12
After an early breakfast we head south past Lake Victoria, and
onto The Maasai Mara East Africa's finest wildlife sanctuary.
All the big game, Black Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Zebra,
Wildebeest, Hartebeest, Topi, Eland, Thompson and Grant's Gazelles,
and many more are all well represented alongside local specialities
such as Open-billed Storks, Temminck's Courser, Yellow-throated Sandgrouse,
Usambiro Barbet and Denham's Bustard. Four nights at our own MAASAI
MARA RIVER CAMP.

13
After an early morning game drive we return to Nairobi, arriving mid
afternoon, and transferred to the hotel of your choice. (Saturday).
On this day there is an optional internal light aircraft flight back
to Nairobi to avoid a 5-6 hour drive across the Rift Valley. END BIRDVENTURES

Should
you wish to proceed with the booking of any safari we would appreciate
that you secure a 10% non-refundable booking fee per person to proceed
with these safari arrangements. Other than this, there is absolutely
NO further financial obligation until 45 days prior to your scheduled
arrival in Nairobi. At this time we shall issue our pro-forma invoice
indicating that I would be most grateful to receive full payment for
the safari. We have found the best means of payment is by an inter-bank
telegraphic transfer directly to my account here in Nairobi.
